6.Automated Health Alerts Using In-Home Sensor Data for Embedded Health Assessment.

We present an example of unobtrusive, continuous monitoring in the home for the purpose of assessing early health changes. Sensors embedded in the environment capture behavior and activity patterns. Changes in patterns are detected as potential signs of changing health. We first present results of a preliminary study investigating 22 features extracted from in-home sensor data. A 1-D alert algorithm was then implemented to generate health alerts to clinicians in a senior housing facility. Clinicians analyze each alert and provide a rating on the clinical relevance.

These ratings are then used as ground truth for training and testing classifiers. Here, we present the methodology for four classification approaches that fuse multi sensor data. Results are shown using embedded sensor data and health alert ratings collected on 21 seniors over nine months. The best results show similar performance for two techniques, where one approach uses only domain knowledge and the second uses supervised learning for training.

Finally, we propose a health change detection model based on these results and clinical expertise. The system of in-home sensors and algorithms for automated health alerts provides a method for detecting health problems very early so that early treatment is possible. This method of passive in-home sensing alleviates compliance issues.

31.A Cloud Network-based Power Management Technology for Smart Home Systems

With the fast development of network infrastructure, connecting to the Internet at any time and any place has been made easy and possible. On the other hand, as our world is suffering energy crisis on oil and natural resources shortages, how to make efficient use of limited power energy has remained a major problem to be conquered so far. Aimed to facilitate the life of human being as well as to use the limited power energy more efficiently, we propose in this paper a technology that can perform remote control and monitoring of electrical appliances on the Internet.

To do this, an intelligent power socket (IPS) module that is able to control and monitoring the power of electricity is realized in this research. The IPS modules are placed in conjunction with the electrical appliances that are to be controlled from a far-end place. In addition, an embedded system-based home gateway that can be connected with the Internet is set up in which the electrical appliances are located. Moreover, the acquired power consumption information or the status of the appliances is stored in a database server in the Cloud.

With the proposed structure, authorized users or system managers can log into the web server which is connected with the database, monitoring the power status and take actions on the appliances remotely. The control command from the far-end place, i.e., from the web server on the Internet, is first sent to the home gateway and then transmitted to the IPS modules through the Zigbee wireless communication protocol so that the remote control of appliances can be achieved.

The proposed architecture can be easily applied to any kind of room space. Moreover, only a browser is needed for the client to communicate with the web server, no other application program is required. As the browser is now available almost on every information technology products, e.g., a notebook or a smart phone, the proposed architecture has been shown to be very convenient and useful for remote c- ntrol and monitoring of electrical appliances, and hence can facilitate the life of human beings.

32.Automatic ambulance rescue system

Traffic congestion and tidal flow management were recognized as major problems in modern urban areas, which have caused much thwarting for the ambulance. Moreover road accidents in the city have been incessant and to bar the loss of life due to the accidents is even more crucial. To implement this we introduce a scheme called AARS (Automatic ambulance rescue system). The main theme behind this scheme is to provide a smooth flow for the ambulance to reach the hospitals in time and thus minifying the expiration.

The idea behind this scheme is to implement a ITS which would control mechanically the traffic lights in the path of the ambulance. The ambulance is controlled by the central unit which furnishes the most scant route to the ambulance and also controls the traffic light according to the ambulance location and thus reaching the hospital safely. The server also determines the location of the accident spot through the sensor systems in the vehicle which encountered the accident and thus the server walks through the ambulance to the spot. This scheme is fully automated, thus it finds the accident spot, controls the traffic lights, helping to reach the hospital in time.

33.Home automation and security for mobile devices

As mobile devices continue to grow in popularity and functionality, the demand for advanced ubiquitous mobile applications in our daily lives also increases. This paper deals with the design and implementation of HASec, a Home Automation and Security system for mobile devices that leverages mobile technology to provide essential security to our homes and associated control operations.

In particular, with the help of mobile devices, HASec operates and controls motion detectors and video cameras for remote sensing and surveillance, streams live video and records it for future playback, and finally manages operations on home appliances, such as turning ON/OFF a television or microwave or altering the intensity of lighting around the house. The proposed home security solution hinges on our novel integration of cameras and motion detectors into a mobile application. For instance, when motion is detected, the cameras automatically initiate recording and the iOS device alerts the homeowner of the possible intrusion.

HASec has two main components interacting with each other: the iOS application that executes on the mobile device and server-side scripts that run in a cloud. Although HA-Sec is implemented for Apple's iOS devices such as iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, it can be easily ported to other mobile platforms. Furthermore, our application is not only limited to smart-phones but also can be used by feature phones through their browsers.

The technology of e-metering (Electronic Metering) has gone through rapid technological advancements and there is increased demand for a reliable and efficient Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system. This paper presents the design of a simple low cost wireless GSM energy meter and its associated web interface, for automating billing and managing the collected data globally. The proposed system replaces traditional meter reading methods and enables remote access of existing energy meter by the energy provider.

Also they can monitor the meter readings regularly without the person visiting each house. A GSM based wireless communication module is integrated with electronic energy meter of each entity to have remote access over the usage of electricity. A PC with a GSM receiver at the other end, which contains the database acts as the billing point. Live meter reading from the GSM enabled energy meter is sent back to this billing point periodically and these details are updated in a central database.

A new interactive, user friendly graphical user interface is developed using Microsoft visual studio .NET framework and C#. With proper authentication, users can access the developed web page details from anywhere in the world. The complete monthly usage and due bill is messaged back to the customer after processing these data.

The communication among these things is referred as Internet of Things (IoT). Till now, there is no specific definition or standard architecture of IoT. Some researchers define the IoT as a new model that contains all of wireless communication technologies such as wireless sensor networks, mobile networks, and actuators. Each element of IoT is called a thing and should have a unique address. Things communicate using the Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and work in harmony to reach a common goal.

In addition, the IoT should contain a strategy to determine its users and their privileges and restrictions. The US National Intelligence council has stated that by 2025 the IoT will connect everything in our life [1]. For this target new architectures are proposed and more research challenges are opened. Authors in [1] highlight some research challenges. Despite new architectures are proposed in the recent years, however, the future vision of IoT is still unclear. Considering the research challenges and future vision of IoT, in this paper we present a detail survey. At the end of the paper, we also present our recommendations.

36.Design & Development of a GSM Based Auto Burglary Tracking System

“Surveillance system using phone line for security and tracking”. Based on the above statement, it is targeted that this project will serve as good indication of how important it is to curb car theft in the country. Surveillance is specified to car alarm system and the means of sending the data to the owner of the vehicle using SMS when the alarm is triggered. Due to the inefficient conventional car security system, the possibility of the car can be stolen is high. The main reason is that the alarm is limited to the audible distance. Somehow if there is another way of transmitting the alarm to the car owner, tracking the vehicle, knowing the exactly that the car is been stolen at the same time that is not limited to the audible and line of sight, the system can be upgraded.

SMS is a good choice of the communication to replace the conventional alarm, because it can be done and does not require much cost. Although most of people know GPS can provide more security for the car but the main reason people does not apply it because the cost. Advance car security system is too expensive. Cost for the gadget is too high. Beside that, people also must pay for the service monthly. Tracking systems were first developed for the shipping industry because they wanted to determine where each vehicle was at any given time. Passive systems were developed in the beginning to fulfill these requirements.

For the applications which require real time location information of the vehicle, these systems can’t be employed because they save the location information in the internal storage and location information can only be accessed when vehicle is available. To achieve automatic Vehicle Location system that can transmit the location information in real time. Active systems are developed. Real time vehicular tracking system incorporates a hardware device installed in the vehicle (In Vehicle Unit) and a remote Tracking server.

The information is transmitted to Tracking server using GSM/GPRS modem on GSM network by using SMS or using direct TCP/IP connection with Tracking server through GPRS. Tracking server also has GSM/GPRS modem that receives vehicle location information via GSM network and stores this information in database. This information is available to authorized users of the system via website over the internet.

37.Application of RFID Technology and the Maximum Spanning Tree Algorithm for Solving Vehicle Emissions in Cities on Internet of Things

The proportion of air pollution which is caused by the cars is increasing. In order to solve this serious problem, many countries and regions have already presented a series of emissions standards, meanwhile some methods has been developed, include update motor engine or improve the quality of the gasoline. However, these actions have not brought about a striking effect as we expect. There are also some situations to fail implement these emissions standards.

In this paper, a wireless inspection and notification system (WINS) through the concept of Internet of Things (IoT) is proposed. By applying the system, it is possible to smoothly realize a green traffic network. In this system, Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology as a low-cost and mature wireless communication method is adopted to collect and transmit emissions information of vehicles.

Moreover, The RFID devices need to be installed on the traffic lights so that reliable reading of emissions signals from a vehicle can be interrogated when the vehicles stop in front of the red light. Taken into consideration the real environment, an efficient and innovative maximum spanning tree algorithm (MXAST) is also presented to select suitable traffic lights aim to reduce the number of RFID devices (more economy) and guaranteed the whole urban cars can be monitored (simple & safety).

38.Wireless black box using MEMS accelerometer and GPS tracking for Accidental monitoring of vehicles

In this work, wireless black box using MEMS accelerometer and GPS tracking system is developed for accidental monitoring. The system consists of cooperative components of an accelerometer, microcontroller unit, GPS device and GSM module. In the event of accident, this wireless device will send mobile phone short massage indicating the position of vehicle by GPS system to family member, emergency medical service (EMS) and nearest hospital.

The threshold algorithm and speed of motorcycle are used to determine fall or accident in real-time. The system is compact and easy to install under rider seat. The system has been tested in real world applications using bicycles. The test results show that it can detect linear fall, non-linear fall and normal ride with high accuracy.

39.Analysis and implementation of a wireless sensor network with remote access through SMS

The use of wireless sensor networks for monitoring physical and chemical parameters in large regions far from populations allows for real-time monitoring with high levels of spatial resolution. This paper presents WubiNet, a wireless network designed for monitoring large regions. Depending on the available infrastructures, the network can be operating for two years using only batteries, or its coordinator can be powered by solar cells to guarantee the transmission of the collected data by SMS using GSM/GPRS technology or satellite phones. The data are transmitted to a base station located out of the range of the node transceivers, where can be represented and analyzed.
